Berceuse pour les lambeaux, 2022
Video performance made for the festival Art Soutterrain 2022: Voix Résilientes.
Video by Gui B.B.
Curated by Caroline Douville.
"Une berceuse pour les lambeaux" is an invented incantatory ritual unfolding in the form of a self-inflicted live tattoo accompanied by a very long experimental lullaby with folkloric tones sung a cappela.
The song's lyrics poetically address the omens of a coming climate apocalypse, the eco-anxiety that follows, and the imaginary possibilities prefigured by the ruin of this world. The tattooed drawing is a sigil, a graphic spell inspired by Chaos Magick prepared from the lyrics of the song and casted by the wound inflicted during the tattoo action.

Lullaby for all the hangovers past and to come, 2019
Introduction : My drunkenness is a transmissible family trait, a predetermined and inescapable tendency bestowed upon the children of the degenerates, the poor, the uneducated, the overworked.
CULTURE, MORALITY, TEMPERANCE, MANNERS WILL SAVE POOR
To despise a lack of self-control and to attribute success and respectability -indeed moral itself- to the power of a disciplined will
civility, self-control, disease, false science, health, the sweat of sectarian convulsive seizures, foolish predictions, temperance, scrupulous naiveté / a civilized person has to be convinced that if they failed to integrate social norms-------------- then they would become ill
our frail and sick incandescent bodies
the escape
into a rift
where time stops flowing and the space is fragmented and
we fall
deconstructed adventures
and the narrative frames are superimposed and decomposed and
when we wake up we
feel our bodies that have become whole
and empty again
(our bodies that were,
six hours ago,
a multiplicity of vibrant excited contradictory energies)
our holistic bodies back in the world of time where minutes are minutes
and
in the silence
to feel several soft
and unpleasant sensations
and
our attentions are no longer playful and chaotic explosions
our attentions are slow and dissipated pain
and
our whole body tries in an effort of syncretism
to merge with the world around them
/ the world-bed /the world-heat /the world-other-bodies/ the world-undone-sheets
livind dead subject : escaping the repetitive mundanity of a machine culture in which the body is imbibed by both capitalism and patriarchy
wound culture and ------- female drunk
everytime I drink I hope
to never reconnect with rational reality and stay in an explosion-like state 4ever
we want the irrational to carry our instincts to the intoxicating will of the depths of our asphyxiated and stirring bodies
the inside of our mouths tastes like hot concrete
the irrational chose us we had a body and energies that knew that the night would give a vital sense to our criticism of Cartesianism we had located in the irrational the only chance we had to overcome the deadly effects of the disembodiment of thought on our way of life, thinking, enjoyment

“I would like to learn what to believe means, and what one does when one believes, and what makes it possible for one to believe.” -H.C for life, That Is to Say…, J.Derrida, 2000 The summer weeks I spent in Barksdale, Leah and Josh were raising lambs. Those little rascals knew how to get into the house, they were so attention seeking they could drive you crazy. Leah taught me how to nurse them. They would take to the bottle so eagerly – fattening right up! We walked in the woods with them, until they got bored of us. Josh would say: they only get one bad day. I have butchered a lamb, not skinned one, but butchered. And I held one, naked. Struggled to cut the meat off the bone. The smell stayed on me for hours, it filled my car on the entire drive back from some town out of Chicago to the city. And for every slice I thought of the sacrifices that were made before me. No pain is wasted: that is the language of eli del’s work. I have been seeking for my faith, and this work found me. And in trying to write about it I struggled. Because I had to admit that the cynicism that inhabited me was no closer to truth than the religious rituals that I had abandoned. del’s practice is one of resilience. Every sigil, incantation, ritualistic gesture is a summoning for guidance. Not solely for themself but for all of us, and especially for those who preceded them, and struggled before them. This is a practice of enchantment. And so if you find yourself cynical, alienated and hopeless, this work is for you. It is a revisitation of sacrifice, and a call to the divine. Suddenly we are no longer alone. We are both witness and witnessed in our fragility. In the early 1900s, Austin Osman Spare’s experimentations with sigils and chaos magick grandfathered an entire lineage of artists such as William S. Burroughs, Genesis P-Orridge and AA Bronson whose bodies of work were/are profoundly inspired by a syncretic spirituality and an interest in deconditioning. Written and visual cut-ups were methods that allowed, through randomization of meanings, a conjuring of spirits. In 2011, AA Bronson and Peter Hobbs released a publication entitled Queer Spirits, which archived a series of ritualistic performances dedicated to summoning an ancestry of queerness in various locations. Bronson and Hobbs conducted thorough research into queer histories of these locations, unearthing hidden gay narratives that were at times erased or forgotten. Text, collages, drawings were combined in ceremonies where cartomancy, sigils and invocations called upon these ancestors, simultaneously paying homage to them and acknowledging their pain, celebrating their lives and calling for guidance. If I am reminded of Bronson and Hobbs, it is because the rituals that accompany del’s work are both imbued with spiritual force and histories of trauma. Their use of text, blurred by stylistic curvatures and spikes, address specific memories, parts of the body or moments in time. These sigils are a reconciliation with a lineage of class struggle, alienation and violence; a coming to terms with sacrificed innocence. These sigils bear testimony to a process of survival. This narrative is a familiar one, one that has defined queer and marginilized communities for hundreds of years. The pieces that fill In the belly are both deskilled and precise, they are organic yet industrial, alchemical but also traditional. Lamb skins hang from metal hooks- remnants of a ritual, they are adorned and suspended appearing both from the future and medieval. Drawings, coated in rabbit skin glue, are lined up in succession, recounting the artist’s journey in making the work, in tattooing across the country, and getting infected by a tick. The Belly harbors eli del’s confessions, their histories, but also their visions and hope for what’s to come.
Text by Marie Ségolène C Brault, curator and galerist at Espace Maurice “In The Belly ” will run until July 2nd.

Vanish while we cannot leave no trace, 2018
dans le cadre de l'exposition Everyone knows our cities were built to be destroyed, Galerie Andreas schmitd, Berlin. Commissaires : Francoise Tahon et Craig Heavens.Lyotard describes the present as a succession of explosion-like shocks, after which nothing in particular happens
If a building deserves the status of monument of death, it’s the Club. Its walls welcome the macabre celebrations of a living collectivity religiously performing its death to come.
What is living and active celebrates death. Time passes. The coming destruction of each life into the chaos, into the ground.
Vanish while we cannot leave no trace,
And there’s an army coming to your door
It’s walking
Disorganized
Crowd high on amphetamines
They are coming to celebrate the victory
Post-war celebration
Festive moment, they shot the monuments
Explosion-like shocks.
Dasein zum Tode
In which you
Find back some people you miss
Clients and soldiers
They come to spend lavishly
in the economy of the underground.
The event is a founding disaster.
Memory is kept in the stones of
In the economy of the underground.
You are the widows
All wearing black
Sleepless
Working alone in cold studios
Hiding from the army
Coming to celebrate
toward ecstasy
How long can you last?
What has to be remembered?
Body rotting and
Pauper grave
Anita Berber ghosts will re- main, lurking in new and old buildings, in the voids where buildings used to stand, and in the psyches of those who walk the streets whatever their origin or reason for being there
Immemorial stone
Here lies the forgotten memories of countless bodies that passed. Epitaph of our amphetamine-fuelled black-outs.
How long can you play this?
Our microscopic stories at the scale of History that will be, at worse, unknown, at best, vague feelings of an event.
The club as a resting place for souls exhausted by repetitive and alienating work, looking for the feeling of belonging to a group, of being alive. Active destruction of bodies, waste of energy and production force.
If, under the sun, we endeavour to be part of history, under the moon we remember our purpose is to rot.
Festive moment, tragic and playful neurosis. Celebration of a past event. Festive moment as a celebration of a memory. Festive moment as an event in itself that only aspires to escape from rational and logical memory.
Interruption of history, inversion and subversion of social roles.
The festive moment does not defend itself, it’s not dominant, it exists in interstitial spaces.
Festive moment – marginal, multiple, anti-idealistic, more counter-monument than monument.
A festive moment to feel that we belong in a community in a given space and time – a capacity to negotiate with otherness.
Feiern A festive moment to train our defiance and better control ourselves – emotional capacity to regulate our desires.
Festive moment, initiatory and lethal praxis.
Gaze up, you're so restless
On your way down fast
The event is a founding disaster.
The festive moment is not entertainment.
La fête chants the eternal now.
Explosion-like shocks.

Fosse commune
